Chevelle Franklyn chose to walk away from a thriving musical career. She had numerous chart topping singles in that same year with mega-stars, the likes of Shabba Ranks, Mr Lover Man, Beenie Man Dancehall Queen and various others. Along with songs that charted her locally and in the Caribbean Diaspora. Chevelle has shared stage with most of the world primaries artist, Buju Banton, Miriam Makeba, Jimmy Cliff, Ricky Martin, Mary J Blige, The fugees, Lenny Kravitz, Boyz II Men. But the closer she got to the glitz and the glamour and celebrity parties she realized it couldn’t replace the void within her. Chevelle Franklyn chose to walk away from a thriving musical career. Early Life Chevelle’s first single was released her early teens. The single ‘Here I Am’ elicited instant and overwhelming public reaction, confirming that Chevelle was destined for a bright future in Music. This led to a number of Jamaica’s top producers Pursuing to work with her. In little time Chevelle began to make a name for herself in Jamaica’s vibrant music scene. Unearthing Her first major breakthrough came after being discovered and working with producer Rohan Harrison on a song called ‘Here I am’. The next set of producers she worked with over the years were the legendary Mikey Bennett, Steely & Clevie, Sly & Robbie, King Jammys, and Danny Brownie. It was during this period that Chevelle became the go-to singer working with major artists. Such as Beres Hammond, Crown prince of Reggae Denise Brown, Gregory Isaac, Chaka Demus & Pliers, Lady G, Brian & Tony Gold and the list is endless. In 1991 Chevelle recorded her worldwide hit ‘Mr Loverman’ with Shabba Ranks produced by her mentor at the time Mikey Bennett.
